Mako Sunglasses Aussie Racing Car 2014 Round Up
What a year for the Mako Sunglasses Aussie Racer!
With 8 wins from 19 races so far, we are on track for a great end result for the year.
It all started on the streets of Adelaide at the Clipsal 500. Out with a bang, Mako took out the first two races. The 3rd race ended in spectacular fashion with the engine in a cloud of smoke, with the car just being able to limp over the line in 4th.
Tasmania proved another successful encounter, with the Mako Aussie Car taking out 3 of the 4 races for the weekend. With massive slipstreaming duels, many of the races weren’t decided until the last corner!
Best of all, we left Tasmania with the lead in the championship.
The Aussie Cars made their first trip over to Perth for round 3. An engine drama in practice put us on the back foot for the weekend. Having to change motors, we just made it out in time to do a couple of laps in qualifying. It proved a great recovery to finish the weekend in 3rd and still holding the championship lead.
QLD Raceway had previously been a difficult track for our driver Peter. Never having had much success at this track, this year proved the complete opposite. With 3 wins out of 4 races, it couldn’t have gone much better. The opposition were left scratching their heads as to how they might overcome the little Mako Racer.
Mount Panorama, Bathurst. The Holy Grail of Motorsport. The little Aussie Racers made the trek to one of the most renowned race tracks all over the world. Currently holding the lap record at the track, and having tasted more success at the track than any other Aussie Car driver, Peter went in full of confidence.
An engine failure in the little Mako Racer in the final race however, meant in 2014, Peter would not have the same success. It came at the worse moment too, in a double point’s final race.
The DNF at Bathurst dropped the Mako Sunglasses car from 1st in the championship down to 3rd. The class points system rewards consistency more than anything, so a DNF proves very costly when trying to claim the top spot for the year.
With 1 round to go, we do face an uphill battle to take out the series. Peter says he will leave nothing on the table, and will attack each race with nothing to lose.
Keep an eye out on the weekend of 14-16 November and the V8 telecast on Network 7 and 7mate.
