The Beaks Are About
It seems some of the Mako Pro Anglers have gone Marlin mad with some great catches recently on the south coast of NSW. Guy Jamieson has caught a couple marlin now and reported that the Mako G1HR6 lens was a standout in the blue allowing him to spot fish swimming up to the lures in the spread before anyone else had noticed them. The brown base in this lens provided a good comprimise between the darker tints such as grey. Combined with the blue mirror and Mako's proprietary HD lens filter they are an excellent lens for sight fishing in overcast conditions and also rock fishing delivering good penetration through the water allowing you to identify structure where fish will be found.

I also headed out with Jim Harnell, editor of Fishing World Magazine on January 2nd for my first Striped Marlin of the season. Estimated at 100kg, she was caught about 20 miles out off Gerroa on 24kg tackle. Sadly, not many jumps, but a thorougly tough fight from this beast. She was tagged and released after a few images by Ian Osterloh. Jim also headed out two days later and tagged two more fish.
Research shows that these fish survive much better if they are not removed from the water, so take a shot like these and then swim the fish until they are strong enough to power off on their own.
